Court News and Lawsuits: Cuba Gooding Jr.

According to the latest news reports, at least fourteen women have come forward to accuse Oscar-winning “Jerry Maguire” actor Cuba Gooding Jr. of unwanted sexual advances and groping. The reports are saying that these alleged incidents go back to almost a decade.

Gooding’s current charges include two misdemeanors: forcible touching and sex abuse in the third degree, related to the alleged groping incident in June. A 29-year-old woman filed a police report that stating Gooding Jr. grabbed her breast at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge in Manhattan. Gooding Jr. is expected to be arraigned in a third case on Halloween, his lawyer Mark Heller confirmed to The New York Post.

“The new accuser is just one more splinter that comes out of the woodwork when a celebrity is criminally charged, but none of the splinters will form a plank leading to his conviction because he has not committed any crime,” Heller admitted to the newspaper.

In addition to the criminal case, a civil lawsuit has been filed against the actor by one of the women connected to the criminal sexual abuse case against him. The woman who is suing Gooding Jr. is identified as Natasha Ashworth. In the suit, Ashworth claimed that while working as a waitress at the Manhattan nightclub, Gooding Jr. “pinched her buttocks, made lewd remarks and repeatedly tried to touch her before she sought help from club management in the early morning hours of October 24, 2018.”

If convicted, Gooding Jr. faces up to a year in jail. Another hearing is scheduled for December 13, and if he is found guilty in the civil suit, Gooding Jr. might have to pay the alleged victim millions of dollars. Entertainment reporters are debating on whether Gooding Jr. will still have an acting career.
